This blog chronicles our adventures as we, The Smiths, try not to become our parents. Ries and Michelle are parents in denial that they are growing more like their parents each day. Gideon and Washington are trying to overcome the genetics given to them by their loving, though crazy, parents.
Gideon had a hard start to life. At birth, his lungs did not function properly, due most likely to severe meconium aspiration. He spent the first 5 weeks of his life in the NICU at Texas Children’s Hospital. We know that God has a plan for our family and we have hope and joy in the knowledge that God carried us through this trial. Gideon is now a normal, healthy toddler. God has blessed us beyond measure and we thank Him for His provision every day. For the full story, read our posts from the NICU.
Our second son, Washington, arrived without complications or much fanfare (thank the Lord). Washington has added joy in an already full family and we are blessed to have him with us. He already talks more than any baby should, making us certain he is going to give his brother a race in the smartest kid department. We are excited to watch him grow and we are learning the dynamics of a two child household.
The Smith menagerie also contains a mastiff, named Pullo, and a rescue great dane, named Wicket. It is never, ever dull in our little house.
You will find all manner of things in this space, from parenting adventures, to recipes, faith, and life adventures. We are writing this for our own sanity, but are pleased if you enjoy it.
All our love and prayers go out to you.
Mitch & Peggy
